- Parag Agrawal became CEO of Twitter, succeeding Jack Dorsey who remained the CEO of Square, financial company which was then renamed Block, Inc. because of its focus on blokchain technology and broadening the scope of of their business.

- Spending the most time in Top 100, Top 40, Top 10 and Top 5, the song Blinding Lights by The Weeknd replaced the song The Twist by Chubby Checker as the best song in the history of the Billboard list.
- Ten minute long version of the song All Too Well by Taylor Swift became the longest song to top the Billboard Hot 100 list.
- Vicente Fernández, Mexican icon and one of the best selling Mexican artist, know for tradition music, has died.
- Davorka Ručević, known as Kasandra, one of the biggest stars of Croatian dance scene in the 90's known for her hits Nisi ti jedini na svijetu, I've got a feelin' and Sladoled has died.

- At least 34 people have been killed in the eruption of the volcano Semeru, the highest peak on the island of Java. Volcano was named after Mount Meru, holy mountain in hinduism, budism and jainism.

- Famous Spanish actress Verónica Forqué, record holder for the number of Goya Awards alongside Carmen Mauru has died.
- Just 18 days before her 100th birthday, television legend Betty White passed away. Known for her role in The Golden Girls, in 2014 White earned her place in the Guiness Book of World Records as Longest TV Career for a Female Entertainer, which had at that point lasted for 74 years. Her career in the end lasted 80 years, surpassing the record for a Male Entertainer held by Sir Bruce Forysth with 76 years.
